PORTLAND (May 23, 2023) – The Benson Portland, part of the Curio Collection by Hilton, and Fire & Vine Hospitality have announced a partnership to provide culinary services by El Gaucho Portland to the Palm Court lobby restaurant at the city’s landmark hotel. El Gaucho will likewise provide culinary for The Benson’s meetings and special events.
The official announcement follows a multimillion dollar-renovation to The Benson, located at 309 SW Broadway, which includes design updates to the historic lobby, restaurant and bar, and meeting and event spaces.
The Palm Court Restaurant, as well as weddings, banquets and all events for The Benson Portland, will feature Culinary by El Gaucho, offering a variety of El Gaucho steakhouse classics including Certified Angus Beef brand filet medallions from Niman Ranch, Wicked Shrimp, Dungeness crab cakes, as well as salads and sandwiches for lunch and dinner.
For more than 25 years, El Gaucho has been the Northwest’s premier steakhouse, with restaurants in Seattle, Bellevue, Tacoma, Vancouver and Portland. The current downtown Portland location opened in 2000 in the Benson Hotel and is accessible from the lobby.
“The El Gaucho experience is legendary in Portland,” said Mark Goeman, managing director for The Benson. “Blending exceptional food with The Benson’s impeccable service and quintessential style will help us create an extraordinary guest experience.”
The Palm Court Restaurant & Bar – now featuring custom banquette seating, a large community table and a unique bar design of hand-picked Calacatta Extra marble that waterfalls at the edge — beckons guests to imbibe, gather and connect. The design introduces a modern simplicity that, in contrast, highlights the existing architecture of the space.
Breakfast is served 6:30 – 11:00 a.m. on weekdays and 7:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. on weekends. Lunch is offered 11:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. daily, with dinner from 5:00 – 9:00 p.m. Room service is available, as are some selections outside of the hours listed above.
“Since 2000, we have been proud to be part of downtown Portland in the remarkable Benson Hotel,” said Cooper Mills, president of Fire & Vine Hospitality, which manages El Gaucho. “Our expanded culinary partnership with The Benson will provide locals and visitors alike with our El Gaucho signature quality when they dine in the Palm Court, or host meetings and celebrations in the beautiful private dining spaces found in the hotel.”
Celebrations, gatherings, food, and drinks have always been keystones of family and community, and a part of The Benson’s foundation for more than a century. With newly refined meeting and event spaces that preserve the hotel’s historic detailing, and catering by the Northwest’s iconic steakhouse, The Benson makes for the perfect backdrop to celebrate life’s most memorable occasions.
Replete with gold leafing, Austrian crystal chandeliers and an ornate coffered ceiling, the ballroom’s elegance has been augmented with a new modern carpet and drapery on the cathedral windows that complement the European-style hotel detailing.
